E’ forse proprio questa esperienza e consapevolezza che il contributo alla crescita e sviluppo della città può provenire da chiunque abbia voglia di partecipare con le proprie energie ed idee, che ci rende particolarmente attenti e sensibili a conoscere ed aprirci alle altre culture del mondo”.
La dottoressa Paola Corsetti, responsabile dei Servizi Sociali ha illustrato gli interventi finora realizzati dall’assessorato per migliorare la qualità di vita degli immigrati. L’assistente sociale Paola Timotini e Charles Chukwubike, rispettivamente coordinatrice e mediatore culturale della Maison du Monde, hanno spiegato la tipologia di interventi e servizi che dal 2001 offre il servizio agli immigrati, ma più in generale a tutti coloro, immigrati e non, che ne facciano richiesta.
La dottoressa Giuseppina Careca (ASL Latina) ha illustrato come negli ultimi 10 anni gli immigrati in provincia siano raddoppiati passando dai 10.020 del ‘98 ai 24.237 del 2007, e rappresentano una grande forza lavoro che incide in maniera determinante sullo sviluppo dell’economia locale. “Nonostante ciò - ha detto la dottoressa Careca - non si può ancora parlare di vera integrazione e permane una carenza di conoscenza dei diritti. Tutto ciò si traduce in una scarsa fruibilità dei servizi in particolare quelli sanitari e socio sanitari. Sotto il profilo normativo tutti gli immigrati, sia regolari che irregolari, hanno diritto d'accesso ai servizi sanitari.
